Shawn Bailey - Engine
Production/Technical Service
Employee #157
I was hired in the fall of 1998, and was
the second production person hired (right behind Bonnie B.).
Having been a motorcycle enthusiast my whole life, this was a
dream job for me. The early months required some long days
getting the production line finished and set up in the proper
order so the bikes flowed down the line. Those long days
also lead into some long nites at some of the local taverns...
with most of our time being spent at Johans and Andys (gotta
love that free popcorn and peanuts).
When the word finally came down that we were going to build bike
#1, it was a huge step and had to be done on a set day.
Being part of the Engine group, this was a major project that
had Ken, Kenny and myself working till well after midnite to get
the engine complete so the Chassis group could start on it first
thing in the morning. The Trench I had to travel to get the job
done (but that's another story).
After a couple hundred bikes were built, I moved to the
Technical Service Dept. with Dr. Dave and Dave Becker, where we
spent most of our time talking with new owners and dealer
Tech's.
Most employees elected not to buy a bike, but 45 did and those
are the RCX (Road Crew) bikes that were numbered with your
employee #. There is no #157, but I have the IPS tags and
owners manual. Later I did buy one of the twenty 2000
model demo bikes, #1260.
We -The Road Crew- were some of the most talented people around
and I have always been very proud to work with each and every
one of them.
